FDM brings faster download speeds than traditional browsers by splitting the downloading. What about a laptop running Linux? Laptops obviously are inferior to PCs, so forget about smoothly running virtual machines and heavily loads on both the host and VM simultaneously. Free Download Manager or FDM is similar to IDM and is free to use. Moreover, we're talking about a PC in my case. I've been slowly migrating to Linux, but there are a few barriers such as this one that only make it possible through the use of dual-boot or virtual machines, which of course is not as intuitive. I've tried XDM and FlareGet and they don't come close to the functionality IDM brings, and their browser integration doesn't make sense to say the least. There has only been a few cases, where IDM has refused to download a video dye to "legal reasons", or something like that. The supported Linux Distributions include Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, OpenSuse, LinuxMint, Arch Linux, Chakra Linux and many more. It's able to download embedded videos (iframe within site), as well as pretty much anything. It supports Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10, Mac OS X 10.7+ and almost all 32 and 64 bit Debian, RPM and Pacman based Linux Distributions. Download web pages or entire web sites to browse them offline. However, when it comes to downloading videos, ANY video, IDM is superior in every way. Internet Download Manager (IDM) is a feature-rich software that lets you download any type. For example, it can be used to download entire photo galleries, as well as batch download files from sites like Rapidgator Keeptoshare etc. I know Jdownloader exists, but that has its own purpose.
